(A lamentation regarding religious intolerance, suppression and oppression)

Too many years they paid, for sins they never made,
waiting for a day that never came.
Then one day they saw, a path beyond the wall,
a way to take them home, for one, for all.

Outside the gate, they fell down and prayed:
“Father, free us from this fate”.
A battle raged ‘till dawn, their faith drove them on,
higher and higher, never to fall.

How long will the sanguine bells toll?
Tell me, how long?
How long ‘till we see with the eyes of our souls?
Tell me, how long?

See the empty faces now, of a thousand years.
Only traces now, in their tears,
of wanting, a life not in vain.
The scars may heal in time but never will the pain,
in their hearts.

How long will the sanguine bells toll?
Tell me, how long?
How long ‘till we see with the eyes of our souls?
Tell me, how long?
